Creative Nature Review
Wheatgrass is the cheapest and most nutritional food on earth. It is a true super food. Its powerful nutritional properties help to restore high energy levels by fulfilling nutritional deficiencies and removing waste and toxins from the body. It is the number one supplement and can be used in conjunction with any healing or health maintenance program.
Wheatgrass is grown in trays for approximately 12 days through a process known as sprouting. Its strong cellulose makes it too woody and fibrous for humans to digest so it has to be squeezed into juice before humans are able to consume it.
It causes no problems for those who are wheat or gluten intolerant as the gluten protein is converted into to amino acids during the sprouting process.
Wheat grasses such as Kamut, Spelt and Wheat berry are the most popular, but Barley, Oat and Rye grasses are equally as potent
The tray-grown grass is used primarily for therapeutic purposes. The 60 plus day old field grown grasses, available in dehydrated powder or tablets, are used primarily as nutritional supplements but they do not contain the living healing energy of tray grown grass.
Wheatgrass earned its healing reputation from people with terminal illnesses who took it at the eleventh hour after conventional medicine left them with no hope. In the 1970s Dr Ann Wigmore founded the Hippocrates Health Institute in Boston, nourishing terminally ill patients back to health with fresh squeezed wheatgrass, raw foods and sprouted seeds. Her success rate has been so successful that wheatgrass is now the fastest growing health product in the world.
Its detoxifying and nutritional properties are unequalled. It is a complete food capable of sustaining human life in the absence of other nourishment for long periods. Nothing on earth provides more health giving benefits. Its wonderfully energizing, boosts strength and endurance, increases vitality, connects you to nature and provides an enormous sense of well-being.
Wheatgrass is 70% chlorophyll, loaded with enzymes and contains every vitamin identified so far by Science and all known mineral elements. It is exceptionally high in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium, as well as the trace minerals zinc and selenium. It also contains a wide array of phytochemicals. It is so concentrated that 2 ounces of juice provide more nourishment than 4 pounds of fresh green vegetables. Due to the high enzyme content these nutrients are assimilated by the human body in less than 20 minutes.
Wheatgrass is a potent antioxidant and has natural antibiotic and antiseptic properties.
It is also a safe, effective, and an extremely potent aid to weight loss as it helps to melt excess fat in the system by suppressing the appetite, stimulating metabolism and circulation and enhancing digestive powers.
If you were looking for one product to ensure good health then wheatgrass would be our number one recommendation. There is nothing on earth that contains so much nutrition and life force energy. It is truly a gift of the gods.
The Chinese word for grass is a picture of two people kneeling at an alter and praying with heads and arms raised skyward. The oldest form of the Hebrew word grass is “Deshe” which interprets as: Through the lowest of the kingdoms on earth, is the doorway through which we may be regenerated and come towards perfection of being.
Wheatgrass nourishes you on the spiritual level as well as the physical. It brings you into balance and connects you with nature. The Chlorophyll in wheatgrass is pure concentrated sun power. It is the first product of light and therefore contains more light energy than any other element on earth. Since we are light beings, spirit and soul inside solid bodies, this light force vibrates through the physical body elevating our vibration and increasing our awareness of the harmonious field that connects everything in existence.
How do I take wheatgrass and how much should I take?
To extract the juice from the tough grass fibres you will need a masticating action juicer. Centrifugal juice extractors and blenders will not work (see juicers for details).
Wheatgrass should be taken on an empty stomach. It’s then best to wait for 30-45 minutes before drinking or eating anything else.
One to two ounces of wheatgrass juice per day is sufficient to maintain a high level of nutritional health. One ounce is nutritionally equivalent to over two pounds of green vegetables. For therapeutic purposes, 4-8 ounces daily is recommended.
Grass is non-toxic in any dose, but you may react to the results of its detoxifying power. Too much to soon can release too many poisons for you to handle leaving you feeling nauseas, light headed and dizzy. These side effects will pass after about 20 minutes but if you find that you really don’t like wheatgrass then you may prefer Barley Grass. It is milder, although quite bitter when compared to the sweetness of wheatgrass juice.
To Grow your own Wheatgrass:
Growing wheatgrass is simple, cheap and amazingly rewarding. It takes approximately ten minutes to prepare a tray and about 30 seconds a day to nurture it.
1. Half fill a growing tray with an organic compost mixture. If you wish to ensure maximum nutritional value you may can a handful of Bio-Glow (trace mineral fertilizer), kelp or Spirulina.
2. Place 250 grams of the wheatgrass seed into a jar, fill with water, and soak overnight.
3. Drain off the water and spread the seed evenly over the top of the soil.
4. Water the tray thoroughly, making sure not to disturb the seed.
5. Cover the tray with 6 to 8 pages of newspaper so that as little light as possible reaches the seed. Soak the newspaper completely with the watering can. This will help the seeds to sprout.
6. For the next 2 to 3 days, keep the newspaper wet. If it dries out, the root hairs of the wheat will dry out and the grass will not come up so well. A piece of plastic can be laid over the newspaper to keep in from drying out. On the second day take the newspaper off, water the grass and then place the newspaper back on for one more day.
7. When the grass is one to two inches tall, remove the newspaper and place the tray in indirect light. The wheatgrass can then be grown indoors on a windowsill or outside in a greenhouse if it’s warm.
8. Once the wheatgrass is set out in the light, it needs to be watered every day. You don’t want the soil to be waterlogged but it should drip like a sponge when you squeeze it.
9. Each tray harvests approximately 12 ounces of juice. You cannot store the juice as it starts to die after three minutes, so only juice what you can drink immediately. You can start to harvest the grass as soon as it reaches about 6 inches in height. Visually divide the tray into 10-12 portions then extract your daily portion using a knife to cut right to the bottom of the grass. This is the most nutritious part of the grass. If the grass reaches eight to nine inches in height or starts to fall over, hold the tray upside down and shake to remove any excess water. You can then cut the whole tray, place in a plastic bag and store in a refrigerator for between 7-14 days.
10. Wheatgrass can only be juiced in a masticating juicer (see juicers for details) and should be taken on an empty stomach. It’s best to wait for 30-45 minutes before drinking or eating anything else.
11. One to two ounces of wheatgrass juice per day is sufficient to maintain a high level of nutritional health. One ounce is nutritionally equivalent to over two pounds of raw organic, green vegetables. For therapeutic purposes, 4-8 ounces daily is recommended though it is best to build up to this gradually to avoid the effects of heavy detox.
